Improved sleep quality through plants

What if your doctor prescribed surrounding yourself with plants, in order to cure your insomnia? Scientists have discovered that indoor plants may provide a natural way of removing toxic agents such as benzene from the air and improve sleep quality.

Having plants in your home gives a whole new feeling of warmth and well-being – but it doesn’t only improve the ambience of the interiors. There is scientific proof that it also cleans the indoor air, creating true health from the inside. And luckily, one does not have to choose from a short list of dull, unmodern plants. In fact, purified air and a beautiful home environment are for everyone (and every style!)

Removing toxic agents

Scientists have discovered that indoor plants may provide a natural way of removing toxic agents such as benzene, formaldehyde and trichloroethylene from the air. Good examples are ivy arum, snake plant and peace lily. The latter have also been shown to help people who have had abdominal surgery recover. Adding a few plants in each room of your house really could do wonders, and one plant per 9m2  is said to do the trick.

Plants suitable for bedrooms

When it comes to the bedroom, we recommend that you to get to know the ivy and the chrysanthemum. These two gorgeous plants both thrive in slightly darker environments, and at lower temperatures, meaning that the ideal bedroom level of 16–18 degrees is no problem for them. They are also supreme at detoxing air from pollution, leaving the bedroom air fresh. When it comes to getting a better night’s rest, lavender is extraordinary for improving sleep quality as well as having a heavenly fragrance. Studies* found that the plant improves the mean scores of sleep quality, definitely worth considering the next time you’re about to update your bedroom greenery.
