75 years with Jensen - «Made in Norway» since 1947

On Valentine´s Day, February 14th 2022, 75 years of Norwegian handicraft will be celebrated. Jensen beds is all about high level innovation, sustainability and technology. The driving force is sleep comfort.

The story about Jensen starts back in 1947 after WWII, when optimism was on the rise and access to materials limited. The Jensen family used what they found and produced their first mattresses with horsehair and cotton wool. In 1952 Arne Krogh Jensen presented the first feather mattress and in 1992 the first adjustable bed was launched.

“Jensen has an impressive history of innovation from the beginning. We have checked out everything from horsehair and cotton wool, to air mattresses and waterbeds, until we spent our time on developing our feather systems, and driving innovation on improving sleep quality”, says CEO in Jensen, Jan Trygve Jensen.

A long tradition of Norwegian craftmanship, Scandinavian design and sustainability is the reason why Jensen won the Norwegian Design Award twice.

From Svelvik to the world

75 years later Norwegian craftmanship, production, innovation and sleep comfort are quite something else. Today Jensen is a world leading, premium brand with beds and accessories of the highest quality and Nordic design.

In 1984 the company built a new factory in the charming small town of Svelvik, an hour´s drive from Oslo, with 28 employees. Today all Jensen´s beds are still produced there, by 140 dedicated people, delivering to 20 countries worldwide.

“All brands have a culture. Our roots are in Svelvik with a strong foundation in Norwegian craftmanship”, Jan Trygve Jensen says.

Sustainability at all stages

All products are so-called Swan labelled, the official Nordic ecolabel with the highest demands regarding raw materials. manufacturing, chemicals and recycling.

The wood in the bed frames comes from FSC certified forests, and 30% of the steel used in the springs has been recycled. Jensen has reduced the use of plastics by 16 tonnes in 2020. All materials are treated without unhealthy flame retardants or other harmful chemicals. The beds undergo an AEH test for ergonomics, hygiene, climate and sustainability at the neutral Swiss test centre Good Night´s SleepLabs.

«When you buy a product from Jensen it has gone through the toughest environmental checks in the world. We are far ahead when it comes to testing and sustainability. It´s all about making products that last. Key elements are durability, quality and sustainability”, says Jan Trygve Jensen.

The hunt for the optimal sleep comfort

Jan Trygve Jensen reminds us of the fact that we sleep one third of our lives. Sleep is crucial for our health and quality of life. That´s why people are willing to invest in a good bed.

Jensen´s naprapat has a central role in the production team, always looking for new solutions and improvements to create the best sleep comfort, independent from weight, height and sleeping position.

Many of the industry´s most innovative and technological products carry the Jensen signature; the beds and mattress toppers with technical abilities regulating temperature, firmness and humidity.

«We have experienced good growth the past 75 years. The most important export markets outside Norway are our Nordic neighbors, in addition to Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland and several more countries in Europe. We now see a potential in Asia, among others South Korea”, says Jensen.
