Dreaming of a cool summer?

Summer has a lot to offer — but not always when it comes to sleep. Tossing and turning in hot, sticky sheets can make even the most dedicated sun lover long for a bit of cool air. Luckily, there are simple steps you can take to keep your bedroom cool and your sleep comfortable.

Three tips for cooler, better sleep:

1. Choose bedding that breathes and wicks moisture away from your body.
Jensen TempSmart™ products help you maintain an even, comfortable body temperature throughout the night. The smart technology acts as a buffer against both heat and cold — storing and releasing excess heat as needed.

2. Use blackout curtains or blinds to block out the sun.
This reduces heat buildup in the bedroom during the day. Thermal curtains with insulating effects work well both in summer and winter.

3. Use a fan or air conditioner when it gets really hot.
This is an effective way to lower the temperature, but be mindful of energy use — and remember that noise or airflow can sometimes disturb sleep.

Why is good sleep especially important in summer?
As the days get longer, calendars often fill up with more activities — while work and other obligations remain. That makes it even more important to get the most out of the hours you actually sleep. A bed that’s tailored to your body is a great start, but a comfortable sleep climate is also essential for waking up refreshed.

What does the research say about the ideal bedroom temperature?
Probably lower than you think. Studies show that most people sleep best when the temperature is between 16 and 18°C (60–65°F). A warm, stuffy bedroom can make it harder to fall asleep, and sleep tends to become lighter and more restless. It can also affect the most important sleep phases — like deep sleep and REM sleep (dream sleep).
