Which firmness is right for you?
When choosing a new bed, firmness is one of the most important things to consider. But the firmest bed isn’t necessarily the best – it’s about finding the right level of firmness to provide the support your body needs.
Why the right firmness matters
When you lie in bed, your body should be properly supported while allowing your shoulders and hips to sink naturally into the mattress. If the bed is too soft or too firm for your body, you may find that you are not as comfortable throughout the night.
"The most important thing is not to choose a bed that is as firm as possible, but to find a firmness that suits your body. Your body should be properly supported while allowing your shoulders and hips to sink naturally into the bed." – Truls Hotvedt, naprapath and Product Developer at Jensen

What determines which firmness you should choose?
The firmness that suits you best depends on several factors, including your body weight, body shape and how you like to sleep. There is no single firmness that is right for everyone. As a general rule, a lighter person will often experience a mattress as firmer, while a heavier person will sink further into the same mattress. This means that two people can try exactly the same bed and experience its firmness very differently.
Your sleeping position also plays a part. If you mostly sleep on your side, your shoulders and hips need enough room to sink into the bed. If you mainly sleep on your back, good support around the lower back and pelvis is important.

Firmness and the Jensen Original Zone System
Choosing the right firmness is about finding the right balance between support and comfort. Together with the Jensen Original Zone System, the right firmness helps provide support where your body needs it, while allowing your shoulders and hips to sink naturally into the bed. This allows the bed to adapt to the contours of your body and helps promote a comfortable sleeping position throughout the night.

You don’t have to choose the same firmness
Sharing a bed with someone? You don’t necessarily need the same firmness. With Jensen, each side of the bed can be adapted so that both of you can choose a firmness that suits your individual body and preferences.
Try different firmness levels
The best way to find the right firmness is to try the bed for yourself. Lie down in your usual sleeping position and take some time to notice how your body feels and how well it is supported.
